Giorgione’s Station

There are traces of our towneven in the Netherlands…View of Castel San Zeno in Montagnana with a seated figure is a sanguine drawing attributed to artist Giorgio da Castelfranco,better known as Giorgione, now preserved in the Boijmans Van Beuningen museum in Rotterdam. Although it was initially calledView of Castelfranco with a shepherd boy drawn by Giorgione, later research (1978) has pointed out beyond doubt the correspondence between the drawing and the Montagnana townscape, identifying the exact perspective point outside the eastern walls from which the famous artist portrayed San Zeno fortress.
